International Conference PhysicA.SPb/2020 is held since 1997 and covers all areas of modern physics. The Conference annually attracts more than two hundred participants. The Program Committee of the Conference pays great attention to not only the scientific but also educational significance of the Conference presentations.
Young scientists carrying out research in various fields of physics are invited to participate in the Conference. One plenar lecture will be given on each working day of the Conference. All sections of the Conference will be opened by invited speakers who will "set the tone" to the ensuing session.
The working languages of the PhysicA.SPb/2020 Conference are English and Russian.
The Conference participants are advised to inquire if they need a Russian Visa in the Russian embassy or consulate. You can learn whether you need a visa or not here, but it is strongly recommended to confirm this information in the Russian consulate in your country. If necessary, the organizers are able to provide official invitation letters to the authors of accepted reports.
The accepted reports may be oral or poster by decision of the Program Committee of the Conference. An oral presentation is 15 min (including 3 min for discussion). A poster presentation is given a area of 1m x 1m. In addition, the poster presenters will have the opportunity to briefly present orally the summary of their reports, in the "1 minute + 1 slide" format.
The Conference will be held at the Ioffe Institute, St. Petersburg, Russia.
The history of Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute begins in 1918 when the State X-ray and Radiological Institute (GRRI) was organized by the initiative of professors Abram Ioffe and Mikhail Nemenov. Prof. Ioffe was elected the first director of GRRI and simultaneously headed the department of Physics and Technology which was a part of GRRI. In 1921, the department became an independent institute. Prof. Ioffe was director of the institute until 1950. In May 1939, the Institute became part of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1960, the name of Prof. Ioffe appears in the name of the Institute. The Institute is the cradle of Soviet physics. Future Nobel laureates N.N. Semenov, L.D. Landau, P.L. Kapitsa, and also outstanding scientists A.P. Alexandrov, E.F. Gross, J.B. Zel'dovich, I.V. Kurchatov, I.E. Tamm, Y.I. Frankel participated in the scientific activity at the Ioffe Institute. The Nobel Prize was awarded for the works carried out at Ioffe Institute to Academician N.N. Semenov (1956, Nobel Prize in Chemistry) and Academician Zhores Alferov (2000, Nobel Prize in Physics).
